Color Doppler Study

Color Doppler differs from Ultrasound (USG) by the fact that in Color Doppler Study, sound waves are used to visualize the flow, direction and speed of blood of a particular organ under inspection, whereas in USG high frequency sound waves are used to obtain a more anatomical view, that is, black and white real images of organs or tissue.

Color Doppler Study uses various color codes to denote direction, speed and flow pattern of blood. This helps in detection of blockage, narrowing or irregular abnormalities in flow pattern in the arteries and veins. The common applications of this study are:

  • Carotid Doppler (neck arteries)
  • Obstetrics Doppler (umbical cord and fetal vessels during pregnancy)
  • Peripheral Vascular Doppler (arms and legs)
  • Renal Doppler (kidneys)
  • Liver and Portal Vein Doppler (Liver)
Color Doppler Study is a non-invasive and painless test which is essential for diagnosing various vascular risks and high risk pregnancies timely, so that proper treatment is provided eventually. The tests are performed by skilled technicians.
